Tia Kratter, “Serengeti Reflections”

17″ x 12-1/2″. No. 2.6 CV Special — 2″, in Honduran Mahogany with beveled back and painted sight edge chamfer.

The angularity of Tia Kratter’s design suggested the profile. Mahogany, simply oiled and waxed, was the perfect color, matching one of the more subordinate colors in the painting. Sam painted the sight edge chamfer with dark charcoal grey milk paint. I’d been playing around a bit with chip carving, and the zig zag patterns in the painting offered the perfect chance to use a simple carved triangle pattern.
