n.d. (ca. 1910). Watercolors, each 12″ x 9″ (15-3/8″ x 32″ glass size). Framed in custom mitered frame in mahogany (Brown Mahogany stain), 2-1/2″ on the top and bottom and 2-3/4″ on the sides, with pinned splines and inlaid ebony square plugs.
Newcomb College was one of the great teaching institutions of the Arts and Crafts movement in America. These lovely studies by unidentified students there were to hang over a Greene and Greene reproduction bed. We took our cue for the frame from the joinery of the bed’s headboard. The sides are slightly wider than the top and bottom, subtly emphasizing the elongated proportions of the piece.
