Ca. 1910. Oil on board, 11-3/4″ x 18-3/4″. Framed in No. 230 – 3” in quartersawn white oak (Dark Weathered Oak stain).
This one was easy—the slope of the land, the slope of the roof, the vernacular subject matter all pointed to a plain slope, with just a little bit of refinement at the back edge (a small cove) for definition and to be in keeping with the careful linework. Cool, muted stain on the oak to be in harmony with the color palette.
