1920’s. Color woodcuts (see captions for sizes). Framed in No. 15 H—1-1/4″ with stepped back; on 3-1/2″ stepped flats. Walnut (Nut Brown stain) with gilt slip.
The flats are thin to act more as mats, although they’re on top of the glass, and cover the wide margins of the prints. (The flats are only rabbeted for the slip.) The profiles are wide but simple using 1/8″ radius coves to create a simple rhythm of lines. A good example of achieving the effect of framing works on paper close when the picture has wide margins. A few of several framed for this customer, the last picture shows them hung in the home.
