Grueby Fleur-de-Lis insignia tile

Ca. 1910. 6″ x 6″. Custom diagonal cassetta frame in quartersawn white oak (Medieval Oak stain).

The diagonal format offered the opportunity to create a very special presentation. The wide triangular floating panels were a chance to show off some beautiful ray flake figure. Because the pattern on the tile is so close to the edge, we decided to float the tile in the frame opening by using an archival adhesive to mount the tile to a panel.
