Birger Sandzen (1871-1954), (buttes)

n.d. Charcoal on paper, 12″ x 18″. Framed in No. 17.2 CV — 2-3/4″ in quartersawn white oak (Black-Brown stain).

Drawings, along with etchings, are probably the media I’m least likely to frame close, but this one succeeds because of the rough texture of the paper, the size of the paper (were it much smaller, it would tend to get lost on the wall without the separation provided by the mat), and the subject—a mountain.
