Robin Moore, “Deadfall in Spring”

2008. Watercolor, 14-1/8″ x 18-3/4″. Framed in Compound Mitered frame No. No. 328 + Sub-108 + Sub-408 — 4″, in quartersawn white oak (Medieval Oak stain)

The masterful rendering of form and use of fine lines in Robin’s haunting piece suggested this frame. The overall slope into the picture enhances the perspective. I also like how the bevel at the back edge of the frame echos the roofs of the barns.

Some would question framing a watercolor close, but Robin’s work, with its saturated colors and confident rendering, have all the presence of oil paintings and don’t need mats. (There is a gasket mat hidden under the rabbet of the frame to separate the painting from the glass, and the rabbet of the frame is lined with metal tape to isolate acids in the wood from the painting.)
