Bryan Mark Taylor: oil paintings

Combining strong compositional sense, vibrant brushwork and a beautifully subtle and nuanced color palette with a deep reverence for the natural creation, Bryan has quickly captured the attention of the landscape painting scene in California as well as on the national level.

The first eight paintings below are included in our current show, “A Heaven in the Eye: Seven Painters of the Northern California Landscape,” on display through December 19.

About Bryan Mark Taylor

Bryan Mark Taylor photo

A young and accomplished landscape painter, Bryan is currently working out of his Bay Area studio and teaching in the Graduate School at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Born in Portland, Oregon, he received his BA from Brigham Young University in 2001 and his MFA from the Academy of Art University in 2005.

Since moving to California Bryan has connected with the plein air movement and has participated in many prestigious events. The practice of painting on location has allowed him to develop greater sensitivity to his subject matter and capture a truer sense of light, texture, and distance. Plein air studies have become his preferred means of recording impressions and feelings of natural settings. These studies have enabled him to create larger studio paintings possessing a genuine sense of atmosphere and mood. His work continues to evolve as a combination of traditional techniques and personal innovation. Time spent outdoors observing and pondering nature has become an essential part of his creative process.

Bryan's work has been widely recognized, most recently winning “Best of Show” at the May 2009 Los Gatos Plein Air Festival and Second Place, Emerging Artist, and Honorable Mention at the 2009 Carmel Plein Air Festival. Bryan was featured as one of ten “Artists To Watch” in the January 2009 issue of the Southwest Art Magazine and as one of “Today’s Masters” in the March/April 2009 issue of the Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine. In 2007, Bryan exhibited in a large two-person show at the Bakersfield Museum of Art. His work was chosen for the 2008 and 2009 International Salon in San Antonio Texas and for the 2008 National Paint the Parks traveling exhibition. He is a member of Oil Painters of America. Bryan is represented by galleries in Utah, California and Oklahoma and his work is found in private and corporate collections around the country.
