Edward S. Curtis photogravures

The following Curtis prints are sold:
Here is a wonderful selection of original small Edward S. Curtis
photogravures (see explanation at right) depicting native American
life and culture from the first decades of the twentieth century.
All but a few of these are on tissue (we've noted the exceptions) and
were printed to be tipped into a book, but never were. As a result,
they are very clean and are generally in very good condition — if
not the prime condition, which would mean they’d include
the pages to which they would have been tipped, that many collectors
seek. Also note that because the paper is so light, a few
have folds or wrinkles. We have not touched up these images to hide
any flaws, and have noted more serious flaws. The translucence of
the tissue gives them an intriguing depth.
The framing is
all archival, with rag mats (pieces framed close have gasket mats
hidden under a widened rabbet to separate the paper from the glass)
and ultra-violet filtering glass. Frame designs vary, with some
invented just for the piece they're on. They are all in either quartersawn
white oak or hand carved walnut.
